Name:

Lewis Ferris

Home Base:

Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington)

Discipline:

Photography (specifically film).

Tell us a bit about your collection?

My favourite images are the ones that can’t be reproduced. I strive to photograph something I’ve not seen before and will not witness again. Some of these photos touch on déjà vu, they appear familiar while remaining foreign.

Why do you create?

It’s a holiday from the mundane.

What inspires you?

Looking and seeing.

What frustrates you?

Gimmicks.

How do you get over a creative block?

Time. New/different environments. Riding bikes.

Who are 2-3 people whose work is inspiring you at the moment?

@bandini3000, Don’t Blink - Robert Frank Documentary, anyone outwardly pursuing their side hustle.

Advice for anyone trying to make it in the creative industries?

Fads change with the seasons - create what you want / like. In terms of photography, you’ve gotta keep hitting the shutter. You’re not going to get better if you don’t get out there and figure out what you like the look of. Don’t let likes/followers dictate what you create.

Where can we find more of your work?

lewisferris.com for a glimpse into future / past works or @datestamped on instagram to see photos which I bring myself to part ways with.
